Application Review & Scheduling
Staff will review your application during open hours. If your application is approved, we'll contact you to schedule a meet-and-greet!
-
Meet-and-Greet
Dogs: If you're applying for a dog, your other dog(s) must come along to ensure compatibility.
Cats: All cats MUST leave in a secure carrier. If you do not have a carrier, we have cardboard carriers available for $5.
-
Take-Home or Foster-to-Adopt Option
If the meet-and-greet goes well and sparks fly, you may take your new companion home that same day!
We also offer a Foster-to-Adopt Program, which allows you two weeks to ensure it's the right fit before finalizing the adoption or paying any adoption fees.
-
Go home!
Most pets go home the same day after counseling and paperwork. You'll receive medical records & post adoption support resources.
Note: FCAC reserves the right to deny any application if it is deemed in the best interest of the animal and/or parties involved.

Adoption Return Policy
We always accept any pet who was adopted at our facility. In fact, it is part of our adoption agreement that if for any reason you are no longer able to care for the adopted pet, you are required to contact us. This is to ensure the animal goes to another qualified home. There are no adoption fee refunds. We consider the adoption fee a donation towards the care and well-being of the cat/dog while in our care.
Adoption Requirements:
-
You must be at least 18 years old to adopt a pet.
-
We must be able to verify home ownership or verify that you are allowed to have pets by your landlord. Regardless of your age, if you live with a parent or guardian, they must be present at the point of adoption and will be asked to complete the adoption application.
-
You must have a personal phone number (e.g. home phone, personal cell phone), and a copy of your driver's license or State ID.
-
If you are applying for a dog & currently have a dog(s), we require that you bring them in for an introduction before taking home your new family member. This is for dog adoptions only. There is a play yard at the shelter that we use to help introduce pets for the first time. Staff members will help with this initial introduction, which makes everything smoother on the day your new pet comes home.
-
If you have children (under the age of 16), we require that they too come for dog meet & greet to ensure compatibility. (Not applicable for cat adoptions)
-
Due to the personal nature of choosing the right pet and the lifetime responsibility that follows, we do not allow pets to be purchased as gifts (unless it is for children living in your household—however introduction requirements above still apply).
-
We HIGHLY recommend that all pets in your home be spayed or neutered prior to adopting a new pet from our facility. If you need low-cost options, please ask us!
-
We prefer adopters with a history of keeping pets current on vaccines and flea & tick/heartworm prevention. If you currently have pets who aren't current on vaccines, we can provide you with low-cost options!
